Product Description:
Real Steel Background
The SIG Sauer MCX Spear LT arrived in 2022 as the mature evolution of a lineage that began with the original MCX and continued through the MCX Virtus. SIG's MCX family was built around a simple but ambitious idea: a rifle that kept the ergonomics and manual of arms of the AR-15 while replacing its direct impingement gas system with a short-stroke gas piston carried in the upper receiver. Moving the operating mass up front and out of the stock meant the gun could be fitted with a genuinely folding stock without giving up function, and that single decision shaped everything that followed ? a rifle that folds down small for transport, runs cleaner and cooler, and accepts quick-change barrels in several lengths.
The Spear LT took lessons from SIG's flagship MCX Spear, the rifle submitted for the U.S. Army's Next Generation Squad Weapon programme and subsequently adopted as the XM7, and carried them back down to 5.56 NATO. Compared with the Virtus it is lighter, slimmer in the hand, and better balanced, with a redesigned handguard, an improved trigger, and fully ambidextrous controls: selector, magazine release, bolt catch, and charging handle can all be worked from either side without the shooter changing their grip. The receiver's rear Picatinny rail accepts SIG's folding stock but is genuinely universal, so any Picatinny-compatible stock can go on instead. Barrels remain interchangeable, so a single rifle can move between short-barrelled rifle lengths and longer configurations. Available chamberings have included 5.56 NATO, .300 Blackout, and 7.62x39mm, and the Spear LT is offered to both military and civilian markets.
In short-barrelled rifle form with an 11.5-inch barrel ? the configuration reproduced here ? the Spear LT becomes a compact, highly carryable rifle whose folding stock makes it small enough to stow in a vehicle or a pack while keeping full-length rifle ballistics from the shorter barrel. It is the shape that has come to define what a modern piston-driven AR alternative looks like.
Product Details
APFG brings the MCX Spear LT to the airsoft field as a gas blowback rifle in the short-barrelled rifle configuration, and the construction is what immediately separates it. The upper and lower receivers are CNC-machined aluminium rather than cast pot metal, so the whole gun carries the rigidity, flatness, and weight that the real Spear LT is known for. The upper carries a Picatinny rail along its top for optics, while the lower receiver terminates in a Picatinny rail at its rear, onto which the steel folding stock adapter mounts directly ? because it is a Picatinny interface, any Picatinny-compatible stock can be fitted in place of the original.
The front end pairs a metal 260mm MCX Spear LT M-Lok handguard with a metal 255mm outer barrel finished by a steel 55mm three-prong flash hider on a 14mm CCW thread, so suppressors, tracer units, and replacement muzzle devices fit straight on. The slim M-Lok slots give direct mounting for lights, lasers, and grips without rails bolted on top of rails. At the rear, the metal MCX MINI folding stock rides on that steel adapter, folding to one side to bring the rifle down to a genuinely compact package for transport, and opening into a solid, rigid shoulder position.
Furniture is a polymer pistol grip, keeping weight down and giving a secure hold. Feeding comes from a metal-housed STANAG-style V3 gas magazine holding 30 rounds, so the magazine carries the familiar AR silhouette and is compatible with the pouches and carriers most players already run.
The control set is fully ambidextrous and executed mainly in metal: a metal ambidextrous fire selector, a metal ambidextrous magazine release, a metal ambidextrous bolt catch, and a metal ambidextrous charging handle, joined by a steel curved trigger, a steel forward assist, a steel dust cover, and a metal gas block. Steel sling sockets sit at both sides of the rear of the receiver, giving two hard points for single- or two-point sling carry.
Internally, the rifle is built around a realistic fire control group in steel construction, so the hammer and sear assembly is designed to survive the gas blowback cycle rather than wear into it. Hop-up adjustment is handled by a quick adjust gas block hop-up system, letting the shooter tune the hop from the gas block position for straightforward, repeatable adjustment.
