SIG MCX airsoft: pick your route before your accessories
The SIG MCX is the modular rifle family the US Army adopted as the XM7, and in airsoft it comes from several makers with very different mechanics. The same silhouette can hide an electric rifle, a gas blowback rifle, or an MWS-derived build, and their magazines and parts do not interchange. Choose the route first:
- Electric (AEG): the licensed SIG AIR (VFC) MCX Virtus SBR AEG. Battery powered, 120-round mid-cap, straightforward to run at any field. Cybergun's MCX AEG and E&C's budget Rattler AEG cover other price points.
- Compact gas blowback (APFG): the Rattler LT GBB with a folding stock, and the full-length MCX SPEAR XM7 GBB with its own 22-round SCAR-H-type magazine route.
- MWS-derived gas blowback (Salvo Precision): Spear LT, MCX Virtus and Rattler builds around an MWS-derived system, including stainless-steel-bolt versions. MWS-derived does not guarantee every Tokyo Marui MWS part drops in, so confirm fitment for bolt, nozzle and magazine feed lips.
Our Airsoft MCX buying guide compares the Virtus AEG, APFG Rattler LT and Salvo Spear LT in detail, including the five compatibility checks that prevent the wrong purchase. If you are weighing the MCX shape against a conventional platform, the M4 buying guide covers that broader choice.
SIG MCX airsoft questions
Is an airsoft MCX an AEG or a GBB?
Both exist. The SIG AIR/VFC Virtus is electric; the APFG, Salvo and E&C examples in this collection use gas blowback or electric depending on the model. Check the individual listing rather than the MCX name.
Can I use M4 magazines in an MCX?
There is no single answer across platforms. Separate AEG magazines from gas magazines first, then match the specific rifle, magazine and production revision. An M4-shaped magazine is not necessarily the correct one.
Will Tokyo Marui MWS parts fit a Salvo MCX?
Do not assume so. Salvo guns are MWS-derived but use their own SCX bolt arrangement. Get component-specific confirmation for the bolt, nozzle, magazine feed lips and hop-up assembly before ordering.
Is the SPEAR XM7 just a longer Rattler?
No. The XM7 uses a different configuration and a separately specified 22-round SCAR-H-type magazine. Treat it as a distinct model when buying magazines or service parts.

Is the SIG MCX a fully licensed product?
Yes, the airsoft SIG MCX is a fully licensed product. Licensing is done by Sig Sauer, and notable airsoft brands producing high-quality replicas of the MCX include VFC (under the SIG AIR brand), Elite Force, Cybergun, E&C and Salvo Precision.
What is the SIG MCX?
The SIG MCX was first introduced in 2015 and has since gained popularity among law enforcement agencies, military forces, and civilian shooters. It features a short-stroke gas piston system that reduces recoil and enhances reliability. The rifle's modularity allows for quick and easy customization, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, from close-quarters combat to long-range shooting.
Should I buy an MCX AEG or an MCX GBB?
Buy the AEG route if you want battery-powered operation and simpler logistics. Buy gas blowback when real bolt movement and gas handling are the point, and you have confirmed the ongoing magazine and gas costs. Both routes are represented in this collection.
Which MCX parts and accessories fit my rifle?
MCX-specific handguards, stocks, adapters and barrels from Airsoft Artisan, 5KU, First Factory and others are matched to one base gun at a time. A handguard listed for the Virtus AEG does not automatically fit an APFG or Salvo rifle. Check the fitment note on each part listing, or ask us with your exact model name.
