About Real Mk12 Rifle
The Mk 12 rifle, officially designated the Mk 12 Special Purpose Rifle or SPR, was a semi-automatic designated marksman rifle used by United States Special Operations Forces. Developed in the late 1990s to fill the gap between the standard M4 carbine and larger, heavier 7.62mm sniper rifles like the SR-25, the Mk 12 was a purpose?built, highly accurate weapon system designed to engage targets at extended ranges. The need for such a weapon was first identified by the 5th Special Forces Group, which wanted a platform with greater effective range and accuracy than the M4 but without the bulk of a full?powered sniper rifle. Managed by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division, the project initially began as a Special Purpose Receiver?an upper receiver assembly meant to be swapped onto an existing M4A1 lower receiver to create a precision rifle. However, it was eventually type?classified as a complete, standalone weapon system, and the acronym SPR was redefined as Special Purpose Rifle. The Mk 12 officially entered service in 2002 and saw extensive combat during the Global War on Terror before being phased out around 2017.
The Mk 12?s exceptional accuracy came from several key design features working together as a system. The standout feature was its free?floating, match?grade stainless steel barrel, which was built around an 18inch heavy profile with a 1:7 inch rifling twist?a twist optimized for heavier projectiles. The rifles performance was tied directly to the Mk 262 ammunition, a 77 grain match?grade round designed for long?range accuracy and consistent terminal effect. The gas system was a rifle?length, direct impingement system, which contributed to smooth operation and reliability. For optics, the standard sight was a Leupold Mk 4 2.5?8x36mm scope, calibrated specifically for the 77 grain Mk 262 round fired from an 18inch barrel.
There were three main production variants of the Mk 12, distinguished primarily by their handguards and barrel lengths. The Mk 12 Mod 0 featured a folding front sight and a PRI carbon fiber handguard. The Mk 12 Mod 1 used a Knight?s Armament Company free?floating quad rail handguard. The Mk 12 Mod H was a lighter variant with a shorter 16?inch barrel. Although the Mk 12 was officially retired in 2017, its legacy as a purpose?built, effective designated marksman rifle endures; its role has largely been absorbed by newer systems such as the M110 Semi Automatic Sniper System or other upgraded AR15 and M4 variants.Viper Tech MK-12 GBB Airsoft Rifle

About Viper Tech MK-12 GBB Airsoft Rifle
Viper Tech has faithfully recreated an airsoft version of a truly remarkable firearm. In the world of real steel, this platform serves as a mid-range combat weapon, perfectly bridging the gap between the short-range engagement capability of the M4 and the extreme distance of a dedicated sniper rifle. By filling this critical mid-range niche on the battlefield, it became a favorite among modern U.S. special operations forces, serving in active duty from 2002 until its retirement in 2017. This is the Viper Tech MK-12 GBB Airsoft Rifle.
From the outside, the Viper Tech MK-12 immediately exudes quality with its hard-coat anodized matte black finish. The receiver is machined from 6061-T6 aluminum in the classic M4 style and features realistic, engraved markings that add an authentic touch. A metal 310mm RAS Picatinny rail system provides a free-floating handguard, offering both rigidity and ample space for accessories. Out front, a steel 435mm outer barrel is paired with a 58mm steel muzzle brake. The rifle is finished with a polymer pistol grip and a 270mm fixed polymer stock. Feeding the system is a steel-housed magazine with a 30-round loading capacity. Every small metal component has been carefully addressed, including a steel fire selector, a steel bolt catch, a steel magazine release, a steel dummy gas block with gas tube, a metal charging handle, a steel sling hook, and a steel trigger housed within a metal trigger guard.
The true essence of this airsoft rifle, however, lies within its internal architecture. It features a crisp, short wall break, two-stage trigger system that provides a clean and predictable pull. The bolt carrier group utilizes a short-stroked CNC steel bolt combined with a specially designed nozzle, while the 18mm aluminum nozzle head delivers a noticeably sharper recoil impulse?though this performance gain comes at the cost of compatibility with CO? magazines. Power and precision are channeled through a 6.04mm diameter, 450mm long Viper Tech brass inner barrel. The rifle is built on the GHK / WA WOC system, with hop-up adjustment conveniently located beneath the outer barrel nut.
In summary, the Viper Tech MK-12 is nothing short of a high-performance airsoft masterpiece. Both externally and internally, it is assembled using premium accessories and parts, resulting in a platform known for its stability, durability, and refined operation. It stands as an elegant and high-class representative of the modern airsoft era. If you have always sought an airsoft rifle that delivers exceptional performance without compromise, the Viper Tech MK-12 is unquestionably the one you must acquire.
