About Real S&W Model 29
The S&W Model
29 is a classic, large-frame revolver, most famous for being chambered
for the powerful .44 Magnum cartridge. It is a six-shot, double-action
revolver, meaning it can be fired either by a long trigger pull that
cocks and releases the hammer or by manually cocking the hammer first
for a lighter trigger pull. Introduced in 1955, it was hailed as the
world's most powerful production handgun at the time.
The revolver
was developed from the work of ballistic pioneer Elmer Keith, who pushed
for a more powerful handgun cartridge, leading to the creation of the
.44 Magnum. Smith & Wesson built its robust "N-frame" to handle the
new round. While it was always respected by handgun hunters and
enthusiasts, its fame reached iconic status when Clint Eastwood wielded
it as Inspector "Dirty Harry" Callahan in the 1971 film, creating a
massive surge in public demand.
The Model 29 has been produced with a
variety of barrel lengths, from 3 inches to over 10 inches, and
typically features a highly polished blued or nickel-plated finish with
adjustable target sights. It can also fire the milder .44 Special
cartridge. A significant variant, the Model 629, is the stainless-steel
version. While standard production has paused at times, Smith &
Wesson continues to offer the Model 29 through its Classic Series,
preserving this legendary firearm's legacy.
About Tanaka S&W M29 PC 3 inch Flat Side Heavy Weight Ver.3 Gas Revolver
The S&W Model 29 is a powerful revolver historically used for hunting large, dangerous game. While it delivers power comparable to massive revolvers like the .500, the M29 is renowned for its more manageable size and easier handling. Tanaka has perfectly recreated this classic firearm, which has been produced since 1955.
This replica is part of the esteemed Performance Center series, originating from S&W's custom shop dedicated to building innovative and unique revolvers. This custom heritage gives the M29 a more tactical and contemporary feel compared to traditional versions.
Although constructed from polymer, this model benefits from a specialized heavyweight manufacturing technique. This process gives the polymer components the substantial weight and authentic texture of real metal, creating a convincingly realistic experience.
The revolver includes six .44 dummy cartridges and features a rubber N-frame grip with a non-slip, ergonomic design. It is equipped with essential metal parts for authenticity, including the trigger, hammer, cylinder release, and an adjustable rear sight, along with a steel ejector rod.
At its heart is the Pegasus III system, which provides a double-action firing mechanism. This system replicates the function of a real revolver: pulling the trigger cocks and releases the hammer with a metallic click, while simultaneously rotating the cylinder to the next chamber. For enthusiasts of large revolvers, this airsoft gun is an essential collectible and is also suitable for use as a movie prop.
