Product Description:

About Real M249 Para

The M249 Para is a compact variant of the standard M249 Squad Automatic Weapon, or SAW, designed specifically to meet the mobility requirements of airborne forces, armored infantry, and troops operating in confined environments. Manufactured by the Belgian company FN Herstal, the "Para" designation refers to its primary user group?paratroopers. Its defining characteristic is the substitution of the standard fixed stock with a telescoping, tube-type metal stock that can be collapsed to reduce the weapon's overall length for jumping and storage, and then extended for use. This is paired with a shorter barrel, resulting in a firearm that retains the full automatic firepower of its parent design but in a significantly more compact and maneuverable package.
The weapon is chambered for the 5.56?45mm NATO cartridge and operates via a gas-operated, open-bolt system, which aids in cooling during sustained fire. When the tubular stock is fully extended, the weapon measures approximately 36 inches in length, but when collapsed, it shortens to just over 30 inches, making it far easier to handle inside a vehicle or an aircraft. Despite this reduction in size, it weighs roughly 7.1 to 7.2 kilograms empty, which is only marginally lighter than the standard model. Its primary means of feeding ammunition is through disintegrating M27 link belts, typically housed in a 200-round plastic assault bag attached to the underside of the weapon. However, a critical feature retained from the standard M249 is its dual-feed capability, allowing it to accept standard M16-style STANAG magazines as a backup source of ammunition in an emergency.
The engineering behind the Para variant focuses on maintaining the core suppressive fire role of the SAW while improving the soldier's ability to carry and deploy it. The shortened 16.3-inch barrel reduces the weapon's footprint but also slightly decreases muzzle velocity compared to the standard-length barrel. To manage the heat generated by automatic fire, the Para retains the quick-change barrel system, allowing a crew to swap out an overheated barrel in seconds. The retractable stock is not just a simple telescoping tube; it features a rotating shoulder piece that allows the soldier to adjust the length of pull for comfort and effective shouldering, regardless of body armor or clothing.

About Specna Arms SA-F249 Para (M249 Para) Flex Airsoft Machine Gun with GATE X-ASR

Specna Arms has faithfully recreated a lightweight Airsoft version of this machine gun. In the realm of firearms, this model was first produced in 1984 as a heavily manufactured weapon, primarily used by the U.S. military's airborne and armored vehicle units. Variants of this firearm have since been deployed in over 30 countries worldwide. It was designed specifically for airborne troops, who are in an extremely vulnerable position when landing in open terrain. In such situations, they require a compact weapon capable of delivering heavy suppressive fire, a role this gun fulfills perfectly. In a vast, exposed area with no cover, its intense firepower can instill fear in the enemy. It offers substantial firepower without being overly long, while its compact size also makes it suitable for use inside armored vehicles. In the dangerous environment of a battlefield, troops can open the vehicle's door and immediately lay down suppressive fire without sacrificing much-needed interior space. This made it a highly effective fire support weapon, which is why the U.S. military produced it in large quantities.
This particular model, the Specna Arms SA-F249 Para (M249 Para) Flex Airsoft Machine Gun with GATE X-ASR, differs from typical airsoft machine guns. Much of its construction utilizes polymer, making the firearm itself very lightweight. Unlike standard machine guns, which are often so heavy in airsoft games and competitions that carrying them around the field becomes a burden, this machine gun is different. It is remarkably light, allowing players to carry it while running across the battlefield without excessive fatigue. While it is certainly not as light as a standard airsoft rifle, it is only marginally heavier. Although it weighs a bit more than a rifle, that perspective shifts when you consider its ability to provide powerful suppressive fire against opponents. The relative tactical advantages it offers effectively offset the burden of its weight.
Key external features include a polymer receiver body with a Picatinny rail on top, a polymer RIS Rail handguard, a polymer outer barrel, a polymer 105mm muzzle brake, a foldable polymer bipod, a polymer pistol grip, and a polymer 255mm M249 Para stock. This stock is extendable: pulling it back lengthens it, and a 90-degree clockwise turn locks it in place. It also comes with an auto-winding 1500-round box magazine featuring integrated sound control. Additional smaller components include a metal trigger, metal fire selector, metal cocking handle, metal bipod adapter, a metal/polymer folding carry handle, a polymer front sight, and an adjustable polymer rear sight. Internally, the gun features a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel, a Rotary Hop-Up unit, top wiring (with a Deans connector inside the receiver), a steel 18:1 ratio gear set, an ESA Quick Change Spring System, and a GATE X-ASR MOSFET.
