Product Description:

Real Steel Background

The SVD Dragunov was born from a Soviet Army requirement of the late 1950s: the mass infantry rifle was moving to the AKM, and the army wanted a weapon to bridge the gap between the standard rifle and the true sniper rifle ? a marksman's gun carried at squad level, capable of reaching out to several hundred metres without turning every infantryman into a sniper. Evgeny Dragunov of Izhevsk won the design competition against several competing entries, and the rifle was adopted in 1963 as the Snaiperskaya Vintovka Dragunova ? Dragunov's Sniper Rifle.

The SVD is not a bolt gun. It is a semi-automatic rifle driven by a short-stroke gas piston, a system Dragunov adapted after studying the competition's failures with reliability in mud and frost. It fires the rimmed 7.62x54mmR cartridge from a ten-round box magazine, and its long 620mm barrel combined with that cartridge gives effective aimed fire out to 800 metres. The rifle's silhouette is one of the most recognisable in the world: a skeletonised wooden or polymer stock with a thumbhole grip, a long slender barrel, and the PSO-1 telescopic sight mounted on the distinctive side rail, with iron sights ? a tangent rear sight and a post front ? retained for use without the scope. That side rail is a defining SVD feature: a receiver-mounted bracket that lets the scope clamp on and off without tools, unlike the drilled-and-tapped mounts of most Western sniping rifles of the era.

The SVD was never a rare or boutique weapon. It went to every Warsaw Pact army and dozens of client states, fought in Afghanistan in Soviet hands, and has appeared in virtually every conflict since. More than sixty years after its adoption it remains in service, and its long, lean profile has become the visual shorthand for the Eastern Bloc sniper in film and photography the way the Kar98k once was.

Product Details

Snow Wolf brings the SVD Dragunov to the airsoft field as a full-length bolt-action spring sniper rifle, and the build follows the original's proportions closely. The receiver is metal and carries an integrated Russian-style SVD side rail, so an SVD-pattern scope mount clamps on exactly the way the PSO-1 does on the real rifle. Above it, the receiver top cover is steel, adding weight and rigidity where many replicas use thin stamped parts.

The front end is faithful to the Dragunov profile: a polymer 290mm SVD handguard with the characteristic vented shape, a metal 555mm outer barrel delivering the long, slender barrel the SVD is known for, and a metal 118mm muzzle brake with an integrated front sight, so the muzzle device and sighting post read as one continuous piece as they do on the original. At the rear, a polymer 300mm SVD thumbhole stock carries a metal stock pad, and it accepts an optional cheek rest ? one with a genuine wood base, a black fabric surface, and a metal buckle that fastens it around the stock, adding cheek weld height for scope use while keeping the classic Dragunov silhouette.

The small-parts set continues the metal-and-steel theme: a metal trigger within a steel trigger guard, a metal gas block, a metal tangent rear sight, a metal magazine release, and a steel fire selector. The cocking bolt is metal and is worked by hand for every shot ? this is a spring-powered bolt-action rifle, so each shot is chambered by cycling the bolt, which suits the sniper role the SVD silhouette implies: deliberate, quiet, and single-shot by design. Feeding comes from a metal magazine with a 45-round loading capacity, a substantial round count that keeps the shooter supplied through long exchanges.

For accuracy, the rifle is built with a fully adjustable hop-up unit, letting the shooter tune the backspin to suit BB weight and engagement distance. That adjustment is what turns a bolt-action platform into a genuine marksman's tool: dial the hop to match the BB, and the rifle delivers consistent, repeatable trajectory shot after shot ? the whole point of a sniper rifle.
