The MP-18 was designed by famous German arms designer Hugo Schmeisser and was introduced into service for the German Empire during World War I as the weapon of choice for the Strumtruppen or Stormtroopers which were assault groups specialized in trench combat.  As the MP-18 was capable of being maned by just one solider and was capable of firing fully automatic, it has devastating effects in the tight trenches of the Great War and changed how wars are fought afterwards.
