The STEN, also known as the Sten
gun, was a British submachine gun that played a significant role in
World War II and the Korean War. It was chambered in 9?19mm and saw
extensive use by British and Commonwealth forces during these conflicts.
The
Sten gun was highly regarded for its simplicity of design and low
production cost, which allowed for mass production to meet the demand
for submachine guns on the battlefield. This made it a widely available
weapon for both regular military units and resistance groups operating
in occupied Europe. Its straightforward design made it an effective tool
for insurgency and guerrilla warfare.
Functionally, the Sten gun was
a select-fire, blowback-operated weapon with a side-mounted magazine.
The name "Sten" was derived from the last names of its chief designers,
Major Reginald V. Shepherd and Harold J. Turpin, along with the "En"
representing the Enfield factory. During the 1940s, approximately four
million Stens were produced in various versions, making it the second
most produced submachine gun of World War II, surpassed only by the
Soviet PPSh-41.
In the 1950s, the Sten was replaced in British
service by the Sterling submachine gun, which was based on the Sten's
design. The Sten's legacy continued through its impact on subsequent
firearms development.

The Northeast STEN MK2 GBB Airsoft is an authentic reproduction of the British/Commonwealth submachine gun used during World War II. This specific model showcases the Birmingham Small Arms (BSA) markings and features the iconic T-shaped stock. As with their other classic gun replicas, Northeast has prioritized realism in the design of the Northeast STEN MK2 GBB Airsoft SMG. It boasts a full steel construction and a period-correct parkerized finish, capturing the look and feel of the original firearm. Furthermore, the Northeast STEN replicates the assembly and disassembly process of the real STEN gun, with the exception of having a hop-up unit and an inner barrel. When purchasing this airsoft gun, users will have the firsthand experience of receiving it field-stripped and will need to reassemble it before operating.
Northeast has gained recognition in the airsoft community for their STEN gun replicas and various other classic gun variants in GBB. In the 2024 version of the Northeast STEN MK2, several improvements have been made. The firing pin base and nozzle have been redesigned to extend the maintenance cycle. Additionally, the 2024 version is CO2 ready, as Northeast plans to release CO2 magazines specifically designed for the STEN gun, similar to what they did with their UZI replica. Another enhancement is the redesigned gas magazine, which now facilitates easier fastening of the endplate of the gas tank, simplifying maintenance procedures.
