Only a limited number of Mateba firearms have been manufactured. Developed by Mateba, a company based in Pavia, Italy, the Mateba M2007 operates similarly to conventional revolvers, relying on the user's physical actions of pulling the trigger and/or cocking the hammer to activate its mechanism. However, what sets the Mateba apart is its distinctive barrel alignment. Unlike most revolvers, the Mateba positions the barrel at the bottom of the cylinder rather than the top. This unique design lowers the bore axis, aligning the recoil with the shooter's hand and effectively reducing the twisting motion and muzzle flip commonly experienced with traditional revolvers.

The Marushin Mateba faithfully replicates the functionality of the real steel version. Despite its peculiar appearance, it offers exceptional utility. Adjusting to the sight alignment may require some getting used to, given that the bore is situated along the lower frame. Unlike most Marushin revolvers, this particular model features an easily accessible hop-up adjustment point located on the upper part of the frame, halfway down the gun. Making adjustments simply requires using a hex key. The distinctively unusual Mateba gained prominence through its appearance in the anime series Ghost in the Shell. Its unique and different appearance from other pistols has contributed to its widespread recognition, making it a perfect choice as an anime prop gun.
