Only a limited quantity of Mateba firearms have been manufactured to date. These distinct weapons were created by Mateba, a company headquartered in Pavia, Italy. The Mateba M2007 operates similarly to conventional revolvers, relying on the user's physical action of pulling the trigger and/or cocking the hammer to activate its mechanism. However, the Mateba sets itself apart from most other revolvers with its unique barrel alignment. Rather than aligning the barrel with the top of the cylinder, the Mateba positions it at the bottom. This innovative design choice results in a lowered bore axis, effectively directing the recoil in line with the shooter's hand and reducing the twisting motion or muzzle flip commonly associated with traditional revolvers.

The Marushin Mateba faithfully replicates the functionality of the real steel version. Despite its peculiar appearance, it is remarkably practical. One aspect that requires adjustment is the sight alignment, due to the bore's placement along the lower frame. Unlike most Marushin revolvers, this particular model features an easily accessible hop-up adjustment point situated on the upper part of the frame, midway down the gun. Adjusting it is a simple task, requiring the use of a hex key. The uniquely styled Mateba gained prominence through its appearance in the anime series Ghost in the Shell.
