Product Description:
About Real COLT XM177E2
The Colt XM177E2 is a legendary American 5.56mm carbine, famous for its use by elite US special operations forces during the Vietnam War. It was essentially a shorter, more compact version of the standard M16 rifle, designed for close-quarters combat in the jungle. Officially designated by the US Army as the "Submachine Gun, 5.56 mm, XM177E2," it was Colt's Model 629 and part of the wider CAR-15 family of weapons.
The XM177E2 was the final iteration in a line of experimental carbines developed by Colt in the 1960s. It began with the CAR-15 Submachine Gun (Model 607) and evolved into the XM177E1 (Model 610), which had a 10-inch barrel. The XM177E2 was created in 1967 by extending the barrel to 11.5 inches, a change primarily made to allow the attachment of the experimental XM148 40mm grenade launcher and to improve the bullet's ballistics.
The carbine has several distinctive visual and functional features. It uses a lightweight, aluminum two-position retractable buttstock, a precursor to modern carbine stocks, and features slim, round, CAR-15-style handguards. Its most recognizable feature is the long, 4.2-inch distinctive flash suppressor, sometimes called a "sound moderator." While designed to reduce the intense muzzle flash from the short barrel, it also slightly altered the weapon's report. As an improved model, it also included the forward assist on the upper receiver, a feature from the M16A1 to help push the bolt into battery.
About E&C COLT XM177E2 Airsoft AEG Rifle
E&C has faithfully reproduced this AEG Airsoft version of the rifle. In the realm of firearms, the original XM177E2 began production in 1967 and was primarily issued to the MACV-SOG special forces during the Vietnam War. The E2 version was not produced in large quantities and was discontinued after only a few years of service, marking a significant milestone in firearms history and making it a rare model. However, the XM177 series continued to serve until 1998. This E&C COLT XM177E2 Airsoft AEG Rifle is fully licensed by Cybergun and Colt. It features a metal lower receiver with engraved "COLT AR-15" markings, a metal upper receiver with an integrated carry handle and rear sight, a polymer handguard, a metal 255mm outer barrel, a metal 125mm XM177 muzzle brake, a polymer pistol grip, a polymer XM177 stock with a metal 2-position stock pipe, and a steel housing magazine with a 250-round loading capacity. The rifle also includes small metal components such as a metal trigger, metal trigger guard, metal magazine release, metal fire selector, metal bolt catch, metal charging handle, a sling hook, and a metal triangle front sight. Internally, it is equipped with the new E&C 2.0 V2 gearbox, which allows for easier access to gearbox internals for upgrades, a QD-system for quick-change spring access, and a functional charging mock bolt plate for fast and easy access to hop-up adjustment. In summary, this rifle bears witness to the historical evolution of U.S. military firearms. Although it was not mass-produced, its rarity adds to its value, making it an ideal piece for professional firearm collectors to own and display. At the same time, it can also be used in airsoft competitions or games.
