Product Description:
The XM177E1, known to its manufacturer as the Colt Model 609, was a compact carbine developed for the U.S. military during the Vietnam War. It represented an early and significant attempt to create a shorter, more portable version of the standard M16 rifle for use in jungle warfare and by troops who needed a less cumbersome weapon, such as special forces and vehicle crews.
This specific model was defined by its 10-inch barrel, a reduction in length that made it highly maneuverable in close quarters. To manage the intense blast and flash produced by such a short barrel, it was fitted with a distinctive, elongated flash suppressor often called a "moderator." It also featured a two-position telescoping stock and a receiver based on the M16A1, which included a forward assist. Chambered in 5.56mm, it offered a lighter and more compact alternative to the full-length rifle.
While the XM177E1 was prized for its compact size and saw considerable action, the short barrel created practical issues, including a very loud report, significant muzzle flash, and unreliable performance with certain ammunition. These shortcomings led directly to the development of its successor, the XM177E2, which featured a slightly longer 11.5-inch barrel to improve ballistics and reliability, cementing the XM177 series as a crucial link in the evolutionary chain that would eventually lead to the modern M4 carbine.
Cybergun has faithfully reproduced this airsoft version of the firearm. In the realm of real steel, this rifle was originally produced in 1966, designed and manufactured specifically for the United States during the Vietnam War. It shortened the length of the M16, allowing it to be used effectively in the dense jungles of Vietnam. In addition to the shortened M16 design, it was also equipped with a long suppressor, enabling stealthy firing in the jungle by reducing both muzzle flash and sound output.
This Cybergun XM177E1 COLT M609 GBB Airsoft Rifle (CGS System) is licensed by COLT. It features a metal lower receiver engraved with the "COLT AR-15" logo, a metal upper receiver with an integrated carry handle, and a rear sight built into the carry handle. It includes a metal 230mm outer barrel with a 110mm muzzle brake, a polymer 180mm handguard, a classic polymer 177-style pistol grip, and a classic polymer 177-style stock with a two-position metal buffer tube. The rifle comes with a steel-housed gas magazine with a 20-round loading capacity. It also incorporates various small metal components such as a steel bolt catch, metal fire selector, metal magazine release, metal trigger and trigger guard, metal 177-style forward assist, metal charging handle, metal dust cover, steel bolt carrier, and a steel triangle front sight.
Internally, the rifle utilizes the CGS system, which is designed to emulate Tokyo Marui's MWS system. As a result, parts from the MWS system are compatible with the CGS system. It also features a quick-release hop-up chamber and a full steel trigger box with components.
In summary, this is a classic Vietnam War-era firearm. For those who appreciate firearms with a sense of history and character, this model is an essential addition to your collection.
