Real Steel Background

The Winchester Model 1873 is one of the most celebrated lever-action rifles ever made ? the rifle that earned the nickname "The Gun That Won the West." Introduced in 1873 by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, it refined the toggle-link action that had begun with the Henry rifle and continued through the brass-framed Model 1866, but made the crucial leap to a stronger iron and steel frame and, just as importantly, to centre-fire ammunition. Its signature cartridge, the .44-40 WCF, became one of the great rounds of the frontier era precisely because a man could carry the same cartridge in both his Winchester rifle and his Colt Single Action Army revolver. Feeding came from a tubular magazine running beneath the barrel, giving the rifle a capacity no single-shot of the period could match, and the lever action could be cycled quickly whether the shooter was on foot or in the saddle. Winchester offered the 1873 in rifle, carbine, and musket configurations, and it was the short-barrelled carbine that proved especially popular with cavalry troopers, cowboys, and anyone who valued a handy weapon over maximum reach. Roughly 720,000 were built between 1873 and 1919, and the Model 1873 became such an emblem of the American frontier that more than a century after production ended it remains a fixture of Western films, television, and collecting, with the lever-action silhouette instantly recognisable anywhere in the world.

Product Details

KTW, a manufacturer known for taking on unusual and characterful replica projects, brings that legendary lever gun into the gas airsoft world with this Randall version of the Winchester M1873. Rather than another modern assault-rifle platform, this is a faithful working reproduction of the classic toggle-link lever action, and at 625mm overall it is genuinely compact ? short and handy in a way that suits the carbine tradition of the original far better than the full-length rifle, and easy to carry and manoeuvre on the field.

The exterior is built around a metal receiver capped by a metal receiver top cover, with a metal 267mm outer barrel and a metal magazine tube completing the front end. The furniture is moulded in polymer with a wood-grain texture ? a handguard and a stock that reproduce the warm walnut appearance of the original without the weight or upkeep of real timber ? and the stock terminates in a metal butt pad. Loading follows the original's tubular-magazine arrangement: the polymer 14-round magazine inserts into the metal magazine tube at the muzzle end of the gun, and removing it is just as simple, since gently pressing the magazine down and rotating it counter-clockwise lets it be drawn straight out. Working the metal lever opens the metal receiver top cover, and the gas fill point is revealed inside the top of the receiver, keeping the valve tucked away within the classic silhouette rather than exposed on the outside of the gun.

The control set is executed in metal throughout: a metal lever, a metal trigger, a metal hammer, and a metal sling swivel, joined by a metal safety mounted at the bottom of the stock. Rotating that safety locks the trigger so the rifle cannot be fired, giving a clear, mechanical way to make the gun safe. Internally, the rifle runs an adjustable hop-up system that lets the shooter tune backspin for enhanced accuracy and a flatter trajectory. The combination of the 1873's unmistakable lever-action silhouette, wood-textured furniture, metal construction where it matters, and a straightforward gas-powered action makes this KTW Randall a distinctive and highly characterful rifle for collectors and players alike.
