Product Description:

Real Steel Background

The Walther PPK/S was born from a piece of American legislation. Its parent, the Walther PP, appeared in 1929 as the first successful double-action semi-automatic pistol, and the shorter PPK followed in 1931 ? the "K" standing for Kriminal, because it was intended for plainclothes detectives who needed a flat, compact pistol that vanished into a coat pocket. The design was ahead of its time: a double-action first shot, a slide-mounted decocking safety lever, a fixed barrel with the recoil spring around it, and a bore axis held low for soft shooting. It became one of the most recognisable pistols in the world, worn by everyone from German police detectives to the fictional James Bond, whose preference for the PPK did more for the gun's fame than any advertising could have.

After the Second World War, Walther's original Zella-Melis factory ended up in East Germany, and production was re-established in Ulm. When the PPK finally reached the American market in the post-war years, it ran straight into the Gun Control Act of 1968, which among other things banned the import of pistols judged too small ? and the PPK, with its short grip frame and light weight, failed the points test. Walther's solution was elegantly simple: take the PPK's slide and barrel and fit them to the longer, heavier grip frame of the PP, creating a hybrid pistol that cleared the import restrictions while keeping everything that made the PPK what it was. It was named the PPK/S, the "S" standing for Sport, and it entered production in 1968.

The PPK/S kept the PPK's character ? the same DA/SA trigger, the same fixed-barrel blowback action, the same slide-mounted safety ? while gaining an extra round of capacity and a fuller grip that many shooters found more comfortable than the original. Chambered in .380 ACP and .32 ACP, it has been made under licence in the United States and remains in production today. Compact, metallic, and unmistakably Walther, it is the pocket pistol that never went out of style, and the silver-finish versions in particular capture the understated elegance that made the design a classic.

Product Details

Umarex, working with VFC, brings the Walther PPK/S to the airsoft field as a fully licensed gas blowback pistol in a silver finish, and the licence is real: the replica carries genuine Umarex and Walther authorisation, so the markings and profile come from the factory rather than from approximation. The silver finish gives the pistol the bright, stainless look of the classic PPK/S.

The construction is metal where it counts. The slide is metal and silver-finished, engraved with realistic markings matching the original. The barrel is a metal 85mm outer barrel in silver, and the frame is metal as well, so the pistol carries the density and rigidity of the real all-steel-era compact rather than a lightweight approximation. The grip panels are polymer in black, giving the famous PPK/S grip its contrasting two-tone look while providing a secure, comfortable hold ? the shape that the Gun Control Act indirectly popularised on the other side of the Atlantic.

The small parts follow the original in metal and steel: a metal trigger, a metal magazine release, a steel thumb safety, a steel hammer, and metal front and rear sights. Feeding comes from a metal 13-round magazine with a polymer base plate, giving a useful round count in the magazine silhouette of the original.

Internally, the pistol is set up with an adjustable hop-up, so trajectory can be tuned to suit BB weight and engagement distance ? a genuine advantage for a compact pistol that would otherwise be fixed at the factory setting.
