Product Description:
Real Steel Background
Nighthawk Custom built its name on the traditional single-stack 1911, hand-fitted in Berryville, Arkansas, and sold to shooters who wanted a pistol rather than a product. The BDS9 is the company taking that same standard of work into a different shape: a double-stack, 9mm, duty-oriented 1911-pattern pistol built for people who carry a gun for a living and shoot it under pressure. The move to a double-stack frame answers the one criticism the classic 1911 has always attracted ? capacity ? while keeping the trigger, the grip angle, and the manual of arms that the platform's users have trained on for a century.
The design choices on the BDS9 are all practical. The frame is aluminium, which keeps the pistol light enough to carry all day, and it carries a polymer grip module with a fine circular texture moulded across its surface, giving a secure hold without the cheese-grater abrasiveness of aggressive checkering. The slide is cut for the three optic footprints that dominate the market ? the Trijicon RMR, the smaller RMSc, and the SIG "K" pattern ? so a red dot can be mounted directly without a proprietary plate. The iron sights are deliberately taller than a standard set, which is what makes a red dot and iron sights usable together: the sights sit high enough to be seen through the window of a mounted optic, giving the shooter a backup that co-witnesses rather than one that is blocked. A flat trigger, ambidextrous thumb safety, and a lightening-cut hammer round out the control set, and the frame's dust cover carries an accessory rail for a weapon light.
The result is a pistol that reads as a modern fighting gun rather than a range toy: double-stack capacity, an aluminium frame, an optic-ready slide, and sights built for a red dot. It is the shape the 1911 has been heading toward for years, executed by a shop that has spent decades learning how to fit one properly.
Product Details
RWA reproduces the Nighthawk Custom BDS9 as a gas blowback pistol, fully licensed by Nighthawk Custom, and the version shown here wears the Patriot finish ? a Cerakote treatment applied by RWA's Hillbilly223 certified applicator, in which the American flag is rendered in silver and grey across the slide, frame, and grip. It is a deliberately artistic finish rather than a factory one: the flag motif reads as graffiti rather than heraldry, the silver and grey palette keeps it cold and understated rather than loud, and the effect is a pistol that looks unlike anything else on the field or in a display case.
The slide is aluminium and cut for three optic footprints: RMR, RMSc, and the "K" pattern, so the most common red dots mount directly. Its front section carries three small cut-out ports on each side ? six in total ? with a longer cut-out running along the top, giving the slide a distinctive skeletonised look while reducing its mass. The rear of the slide is engraved with the "NIGHTHAWK" logo marking on both sides. The frame is aluminium with an integrated accessory rail under the dust cover for a weapon light or laser, and it is engraved with the "NIGHTHAWK CUSTOM" marking. The grip is polymer, covered in a fine circular anti-slip texture and carrying "NIGHTHAWK" logo markings on both sides.
The barrel is a metal 125mm outer barrel, fitted with a metal thread adapter and thread protector so a suppressor or tracer unit can be attached while the muzzle stays protected when it is not. Feeding comes from a metal gas magazine holding 30 rounds with a polymer base plate.
The small-parts set is metal and steel: a metal ambidextrous thumb safety, a metal grip safety, a metal slide catch, a flat metal trigger, a steel magazine release, a metal fibre optic front sight with a red rod, a metal rear sight, and a steel recoil spring guide with a steel sear unit. The hammer is steel with a skeletonised structure that substantially reduces its weight, which shortens lock time and gives the action a faster, cleaner feel. Both iron sights are raised above standard height, so an RMR can be mounted and the iron sights still used ? the co-witness arrangement that makes an optic a genuine addition rather than a replacement.
