Real Steel Background

The G28 is Heckler & Koch's designated marksman rifle, developed for the German Bundeswehr and adopted around 2011 to give infantry squads a precision capability well beyond the reach of a standard 5.56mm service rifle. It is built on the HK417 ? the 7.62x51mm NATO large-frame sibling of the HK416 ? and shares that rifle's short-stroke gas-piston action, which keeps hot gas and carbon out of the receiver and underpins the platform's reputation for reliability. Where a standard battle rifle is built to be carried and fired quickly, the G28 was engineered to be shot accurately: a longer, heavier barrel, a long free-floating handguard that leaves the barrel completely undisturbed, an adjustable stock with a height-adjustable cheek rest so the shooter can settle comfortably behind a magnified optic, and provision for a bipod at the front. In German service it is typically paired with a high-magnification optic and handled by a designated marksman working as part of a squad rather than as a standalone sniper ? a rifleman who can reach out to ranges the rest of the squad cannot. The G28 saw service with German forces in Afghanistan and has since been taken up by other units and export customers, and it stands as one of the clearest expressions of the modern squad marksman concept: a weapon that looks and handles like an infantryman's rifle but reaches far beyond it.

Product Details

E&C, a manufacturer known for its affordable AR-platform AEGs, delivers the G28 as a full-metal electric replica of the German marksman's rifle. The rifle is built around a V2.5 gearbox using a longer cylinder and piston design, purpose-built to move the greater air volume a long-barrelled marksman platform needs, and it pairs that with a quick-change spring system so the power can be tuned for different field limits.

Externally, the rifle is built around a metal G28 receiver paired with a long metal 408mm free-floating handguard. That handguard has a distinctive two-part character: the forward section carries no Picatinny rail, which keeps weight off the muzzle end and gives the supporting hand a smooth, comfortable surface free of the sharp edges rail slots can present, while the rear section carries Picatinny rail to provide the mounting space needed for accessories. A built-in flip-up front sight is integrated into the assembly. The metal 410mm outer barrel is finished with an 85mm G28 DMR-style muzzle brake, giving the rifle the long, purposeful profile of the original.

Furniture is polymer: a G28-style stock fitted with an adjustable four-position height cheek rest, a rubber stock pad, steel sling loops on both sides, and a six-position stock pipe, with a wheel at the rear of the stock that can be turned to extend the stock's length so the shooter can dial in length of pull precisely. A polymer pistol grip completes the grip, and feeding comes from a polymer 110-round magazine moulded from semi-transparent material with a dummy cartridge visible inside, giving the magazine the convincing appearance of a loaded magazine. The rifle also comes supplied with two scope mounts, covering 34mm and 30mm scope tubes as well as 25mm tubes, so a wide range of optics can be fitted straight away.

The control set includes a metal ambidextrous fire selector, a metal magazine release, a metal bolt catch, a metal charging handle, and a metal forward assist, joined by a metal removable 416A5-style flip-up rear sight that pairs with the built-in front sight, while a polymer dust cover completes the receiver.

Internally, the rifle is electrically powered, with the battery housed in the stock. It runs an 8mm bearing V2.5 gearbox built around a longer cylinder and piston design, providing the increased air volume needed to make consistent use of the long inner barrel. A quick-change spring variant lets the main spring be swapped conveniently to meet different field power requirements, the rifle arrives ready for a small Tamiya plug, and an adjustable hop-up lets the shooter tune backspin for range and trajectory. The combination of the G28's distinctive long-profile silhouette, the comfortable rail-free forward handguard, the finely adjustable stock, and a serviceable quick-change V2.5 gearbox makes this E&C G28 a compelling option for players who want a designated marksman platform.
