It was designed by Steyr-Daimler-Puch in
the 1960s and is currently manufactured by Steyr Arms GmbH & Co KG.
In 1977, it was adopted by the Austrian Army as the StG 77
(Sturmgewehr 77), replacing the 7.62?51mm NATO StG 58 automatic rifle.
Since then, it has been the standard small arm of the Bundesheer
(Austrian Armed Forces) and various Austrian federal police units. Many
other countries have also adopted variants of the Steyr AUG as their
standard-issue service rifle.
The importation of the Steyr AUG into the United States began in the
1980s as the AUG/SA (SA indicating semi-automatic). However, it was
banned from importation in 1989 through an executive order by President
George H. W. Bush. This order restricted the import of foreign-made
semiautomatic rifles that were deemed to lack "a legitimate sporting
use." After six years, changes were made to the design of the carbine to
meet importation criteria, allowing its importation once again. These
changes included a redesigned thumbhole stock replacing the pistol grip
and an unthreaded barrel to prevent attachment of a flash hider or
suppressor.
The import ban expired in 2004, and in 2008, Steyr Arms collaborated
with Sabre Defence to produce parts for the Steyr AUG legally within the
United States.

About KWA Airsoft
The KWA Lithgow Arms F90 GBB Airsoft Rifle is a licensed and faithful replica of the AUG rifle from Australia. It is based on the 20-inch variant of the F90 platform, featuring a bayonet lug and being the longest iteration of the F90. Users familiar with the AUG platform will feel right at home with this rifle and may even discover some pleasant surprises.
In terms of controls, the F90 shares many similarities with the AUG. However, it features a fold-up, low-profile charging handle, a design element derived from the FAL-based L1A1 used by the Australians. Unlike the original FAL, the L1A1's charging handle folds forward and out of the way when not in use. While the F90's charging handle doesn't fold away, it can be pushed up into a locked position to stay out of the way when not needed. This design feature may initially raise concerns about reload speed for AUG users. However, the F90 includes a bolt lock lever, allowing the bolt to be dropped after a reload without having to manipulate the charging handle.
Similar to the AUG, the F90 boasts an ambidextrous magazine release, safety, and a 2-stage trigger. The trigger offers semi-auto fire when pulled halfway and full auto when pulled all the way. For those participating in semi-only skirmishes, the KWA F90 is equipped with an automatic lockout trigger (ALO). The ALO is a pull tab located at the bottom of the trigger, preventing it from fully traveling to automatic fire mode. Notably, the F90 features a slot that allows for an SL40 UBGL-style grenade launcher attachment, although no airsoft grenade launcher is currently available for it.
The takedown process of the KWA F90 is similar to the real AUG, requiring field stripping to access the hop-up unit. The shooting experience with this airsoft rifle is enjoyable, with a squishy trigger characteristic of bullpup rifles. However, it is not as squishy as the Tokyo Marui AUG AEG. The F90 also features blowback, reminiscent of the GHK AUG GBB, further enhancing the shooting experience. The reload process is quick thanks to the bolt release feature, which was absent in the original AUG design. However, it's worth noting that the bolt release is only located on the left-hand side, making it challenging for left-handed users to access.
Lastly, the irony lies in the fact that this airsoft gun is based on an Australian design while airsoft itself is banned in Australia. This limitation may disappoint Australian enthusiasts unable to enjoy the sport.

KWA Lithgow Arms F90 GBB Airsoft Rifle
1/1 Scale Gas Blow Black Powered Airsoft GBB Rifle
Featuring SEMI & FULLY Automatic Shooting Mode
Llicensed and faithful replica of the AUG rifle from Australia

Polymer Lower Body
Metal Receiver With 20mm Picatinny Top Rail
Metal Outer Barrel With Muzzle Brake
Metal magazine accommodate 30rds 6mm BB Bullets
Polymer made Pistol Grip
Ambidextrous magazine release, safety, and a 2-stage trigger

Adjustable HOPUP System
Automatic lockout trigger (ALO) System
Sling mount can be installed with any single, 2- or 3- point tactical sling
Remember to check out our Store for accessories
